Day 23: 30 Paintings in 30 Days"

"Florida Palms"       $99
13" x 9"        watercolor
Yes, we really are in Florida.  And it took 23 days for me to finally paint a palm tree.  I love the way they sway in the wind.  We are loving retirement.  Venice is a very friendly town.  Artists have been very welcoming to me and Dick is loving the golf here.
Today's painting is pretty basic, but was really fun to paint.  I started by wetting both sides of the paper and then blocking in the base color (light green for the trees and light blue for the sky).  From there, I just kept changing to smaller brushes and thicker paint to create the shadows and deeper look of the palms.  Watch for more contemporary palms in the future.  I plan to make cards of this image.
Yesterday,we spent the day on the beach.  I could get used to this life!

  1. You just can't come to Florida and not paint palm trees! It's almost mandatory, like painting birches in Minnesota. Enjoy your time here.
